Patient News for March 2025

Patient Participation Group (PPG) Feedback: Repeat Prescription Process
THANK YOU to all 106 patients who took the time to respond to our recent survey about the repeat prescribing process. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve our services. In this article, we'll share the key findings and outline the steps we're taking to address your suggestions.
It's important to note that the repeat prescribing process involves three key parties: the patient, the practice, and the pharmacy. Some of the feedback received related to timescales for medications being dispensed and out-of-stock items at pharmacies. While these issues can certainly cause frustration, they are often outside the direct control of the practice. Nevertheless, we appreciate the upset this causes and are committed to working with our pharmacy partners to improve the overall experience.
Answers to how patients feel about different aspects of the repeat medication process

What's Working Well
Online Ordering: 73% of respondents find ordering prescriptions online to be the easiest aspect of the process.
Collecting from Pharmacy: 62% find collecting prescriptions from the pharmacy straightforward.
We have identified several areas where we can improve our service:
Process Understanding: Only 14% of respondents find understanding the repeat prescribing process easy, suggesting we need to provide clearer information.
Key Themes from Your Comments
Several recurring themes emerged from your comments:
Process Clarity: Many patients would like a clearer explanation of how the repeat prescribing process works, including when to reorder
Coordination of Medications: Some patients with multiple medications find their prescriptions running out at different times, creating multiple trips to the pharmacy.
Batch System (Repeat Dispensing) Challenges: Some patients expressed frustration with the repeat prescription system when medications are needed at different intervals.
What We're Doing Next
Based on your feedback, we're committing to the following improvements:
Creating a FAQ Guide: We'll develop a comprehensive guide explaining the repeat prescribing process, addressing the most common questions and concerns.
Medication Coordination: We'll review our processes to better align medication renewal dates where possible.
Process review: We will be reviewing the complete repeat prescription ordering process to ensure that patient requests are viewed and received by the most appropriate clinician in the most timely way
We'll share an update on our progress in next month's newsletter. Thank you again for your valuable feedback and patience as we work to improve our services.

Introducing our New GP
We're thrilled to announce that Dr. Kieran McCartney Patel will be joining our permanent team on GPs at the at Hall Practice.
Many of you will recognise him already, and for those who don't, we're confident you'll find him a valuable addition to our team.
We're excited to have him continue his journey with us and strongly recommend him to all our patients.
Dr Kieran McCartney-Patel
I joined the Hall Practice in February 2024 as a GP registrar and am delighted to be carrying on at the practice as a salaried GP from March 2025.
I work Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
I support patients by seeing everyone from the very youngest to the very oldest and whatever their problem might be. I like to build strong, lasting relationships with my patients, promote their independence though focussed education and work collaboratively with them for the long term.
Outside of work I am part of a local amateur dramatics group which produces several shows a year including a Shakespearean play in the summer and a more modern one in the autumn/winter.

Breast Screening: Why It Matters
The NHS offers free breast screening to women aged 50 to 71 every three years. This screening is crucial as it helps detect breast cancers early, when they are easier to treat, potentially saving thousands of lives each year.
In England, the NHS has launched a new campaign to encourage more women to attend their screenings, as early detection significantly improves survival rates. If you're eligible and haven't received your invitation by the time you're 53, contact the local breast screening service at Wycombe Hospital for assistance.
Screening units do not offer drop-in screening on request. Breast screening for women aged 50-70 is by appointment only. Invitations for screening are sent automatically to women up until their 71st birthday. Women aged 71 or over can contact their breast screening unit to make an appointment every 3 years. Women with breast symptoms should see their GP.

maternal vaccines
Maternal Vaccinations: RSV, Pertussis and Flu
During pregnancy, several vaccines are recommended to protect both mother and baby. These include:
- Flu Vaccine: Available at any stage of pregnancy during the flu season, ideally in the autumn before flu starts circulating14.
- Pertussis Vaccine: Typically offered between 16 and 32 weeks of pregnancy, usually around the 20-week scan14.
- RSV Vaccine: Offered at 28 weeks of pregnancy or soon after to protect newborns from respiratory syncytial virus14.
If you have questions or concerns about these vaccines, please contact your GP or midwife for advice.

bowel screening
Bowel Cancer Screening: What You Need to Know
Bowel cancer screening is a free, at-home test for people aged 50 to 74 in England, aiming to detect bowel cancer early by checking for hidden blood in a stool sample.
If you're eligible and haven't received your test kit, contact the free bowel cancer screening helpline on 0800 707 60 60 for assistance.
