Plan ahead for your travel: do you need travel vaccines?

The vaccines you will need depend on your destination, personal health and planned activities, while the timescales in which they need to be taken prior to travel differ for each one.

Don't be tempted to leave getting vaccinated to the last minute as the body may not have enough time to produce antibodies, leaving you at risk of not being adequately immunised or protected. Getting vaccines late also means if you were to develop side-effects, this could potentially happen when you are travelling or when you first get to your destination.

Our recommendation is to book a consultation at least 6-8 weeks before you are due to travel. Some vaccinations need to be given well in advance to allow your body to develop immunity, and others may involve more than one dose spread over several weeks or months.

This timeframe also ensures we are able to offer you a travel appointment with our nursing team. If you are travelling with family members, we need to offer an appointment duration that allows our team to safely assess the risks for each individual who is travelling. Our team can help you understand the possible risks and discuss how you can stay best protected against a number of diseases.

We are unable to offer travel appointments at short notice, as last-minute nursing appointments are prioritised for patients with urgent medical need. If we are unable to offer you a travel appointment, the following local private clinics may be able to:

Lanes Medical Practice Travel Clinic - Stoke Poges

Doctor Now - Beaconsfield
